Welcome

Battle Grounds Coffee Co & Roastery is specialty coffee company based in Canada and Costa Rica.

We operate a micro-roastery and coffee lab in the town of Devon, Alberta. We offer our own Signature Blend as well as select, single estate and single origin coffees. We develop custom profiles for restaurants and cafes.

And, we do all this by sourcing our own green coffee. We travel to interesting places looking for interesting people growing interesting coffee. We sample their coffee. We listen to their stories. We then buy their coffee and bring it home to roast it ourselves, with care and attention. To share with you.

Our Community

The ‘why’ of Battle Grounds is our community. Since we started, we’ve met some of the most wonderful and diverse people. It’s our desire to continue to strive to invest ourselves in this community’s well-being by supplying excellently roasted coffee. Whether it’s supporting a bike race, making a quick weekend trip to the roastery to fulfill an order, or finding pleasure in the milestones of others along the way, we intend to share, celebrate, promote, contribute, support, and care for this expanding group of people.

Our Business

Battle Grounds is a company with a heart for reciprocity, upstream and down. We believe in repaying good with good and bad with indifference.

We specialize in sourcing the finest green coffee from farmers we know. We invest in their stories. They invest in ours. And in turn, we invest in yours.

Battle Grounds has a sister company, Coffea Reciproca, through which we import our green coffee, and make it available to other roasters, too. We offer our own signature roastings and we develop profiles for a variety of clients for their customers. And while respecting local preferences, we seek to bring the representational tastes of each of our imported coffees to everyone we meet.

Who we are

Steven, the founder.
Steven was born in Costa Rica and raised in and around his family’s coffee estates. He remembers fondly the trips to the coffee fields in his grandfather’s old Landrover. He knows the meaning of coffee to the entire community. His global adventures and supply chain experience position him perfectly to build Battle Grounds Coffee Co & Roastery.

Mauricio, the origin guy.
Born and raised in Costa Rica, Mauricio also knows a thing or two about coffee. And roasting. And cupping. And baristas. And espresso machines. Oh, and shopping. Mauricio is the keeper of our origin manifesto.

Dan, the apprentice.
Dan has two jobs: to learn the coffee business from the ground up from these two, life-long practitioners, and to document the process along the way.
